Jewels of
the East
Exploring the beauty of the Regent's Canal,
the Hertford Union Canal, Victoria Park and
the Mile End Park.
Hidden amongst the post-war estates and
tower blocks in Mile End and Bow, there lies
some of London's greatest surprises. Just
steps away from the busy Mile End road, you
will be amazed to be introduced to one of
London's most beautiful and peaceful late-
Georgian squares.
The contrast experienced in the first ten
minutes of this walk marks the first dramatic
chords of a glorious overture, one which
reveals a chain of hidden parks and peaceful
canals, and some of London's least known
beauty spots, including the 'Little Venice of
the East'.
The walk includes tow-path strolls along the
prettiest and most peaceful sections of the
Regent's Canal, the Hertford Union Canal, the
Victoria Park and the Mile End Park. This
circular two hour walk starts and finishes at
Mile End tube station, and includes time for
refreshments at the Lakeside Pavilion in
Victoria Park.
This walk starts at 1.30pm at the exit of
Mile End tube station on Thursday 3rd
July 2008, and at the same time each
Thursday after that.
Mile End tube is in Zone 2, and is served by
District, Central and the Hammersmith and
City lines.
The walk costs £5 per person with proceeds
to Cancer Research UK and Oxfam.
