Rotherhithe Rover
We are pleased to present a new walk for
the winter and spring season for 2010.
The new 'Rotherhithe Rover' walk starts
and finishes at Canada Water Tube and bus
station at 1.30pm every Thursday. Just
meet in the bus station by the tube station
exit at street level. (In case of delays on
Jubilee Line, you can also travel to Canada
Water by No. 47 bus from London Bridge).
Like all our walks, this tour includes two
walk experiences; in this case the history
element explores the old Surrey
Commercial Docks, whilst also showcasing
the beauty of the Russia Dock Woodland
and ecology park that has been created
within the old Dock landscape.
At times on this walk, you will feel you are
in a quiet suburb of Amsterdam- then a
small town in Norway-suddenly a surprise
vista of the Thames reminds you we havn't
left London. This tour includes the Albion
Channel, Canada Water and the Surrey
Water, a trip up the 59 steps of 'Stave Hill'
for the amazing panorama of the 'twin
cities' of Docklands and the old City of
London, and a lovely waterside stroll
around the extensive Greenland Dock.
At Greenland Dock we learn of the history
of the White Star/Cunard liners that traded
between here and Canada and North
America, before we return towards the
Surrey Quays shopping complex adjacent to
your starting point at Canada Water at
around 3.30pm.
This walk starts at 1.30pm every
Thursday; just meet at Canada Water
tube and bus station at exit of tube
station at street level.
The walk costs £5 per person with
proceeds going to 'Oxfam' and 'Cancer
Research UK'.
